Malawi Update - 19th of August, 2021
Rorshok's weekly ten-minute update of stuff happening in Malawi. The Ministry of Trade is warning against unfair and anti-competitive trading practices following investigations that were conducted jointly by the Ministry of Trade, Malawi Revenue Authority and the Competition and Fair-Trading Commission. The Ministry of Trade has also informed all business operators in the poultry industry that the government will start enforcing Business Licensing for distribution of poultry and poultry products, particularly live chickens. In developmental news, Malawi could become the fourth major producer of Niobium after Brazil, Canada and Australia following the Mineral Resources Committee’s (MRC) recommendation to grant Globe Metals & Mining a license for the Kanyika Niobium Project in Mzimba. Niobium is a rare shiny, white metal that is used for the production of high temperature resistant alloys and special stainless steels. These stories and more in this week’s update.
